ABOUT HEDC

The Hunter Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) works in partnership with business and regional organisations to develop an economic and commercial environment that will ensure the sustainable growth of the Hunter Region.

 

The HEDC

  • Provides advice on strategic economic issues to the State government,
  • Facilitates and designs economic development strategies for the Region,
  • Promotes the Region for investment attraction,
  • Gives access to a network of support organisations,
  • Partners in major regional projects.

 

The HEDC can assist with

  • Detailed information for business planning
  • Government and commercial contacts in the region

For the Hunter to be a dynamic employment hub with strong community ties and a commitment to excellence.

 

MISSION

To lead and assist regional development in the Hunter for the benefit of all communities of the region.

 

 

ROLE OF THE HEDC

The HEDC is the peak advisory body to the State government on matters of economic development.

 

It facilities the delivery of economic development strategies for the region, promotes the region for investment and provides support to businesses looking to expand or relocate to the Hunter.

 

The HEDC’s activities include:

  • Promoting regional economic development initiatives
  • Facilitating the creation of sustainable employment
  • Attracting investment into the Hunter
  • Promoting the Hunter as a business location
  • Encouraging participation and co-operation of local government in regional economic development
  • Providing advice to government regarding economic development issues
  • Demonstrating and encouraging leadership and partnership

 

The HEDC Board is comprised of 10 Hunter business representatives appointed by State Cabinet and is Chaired by Cr John Tate, Lord Mayor of Newcastle.

Regional Development Australia (RDA) is a joint Commonwealth-State initiative to support regional development. Funded by the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and State Government to be key facilitators of change and development in their regions.

RDA-Hunter will be the first point of contact for Hunter communities across all levels of government to promote regional initiatives and partnerships. RDA-Hunter coordinates the local response to opportunities for employment, regional development and community capacity-building.
