  • Muswellbrook Shire is the ideal place to work, live and play providing a choice of business and social opportunity within a friendly community.   

  • The Shire of Muswellbrook is centrally located in the Upper Hunter Valley, has a population of over 16,000 and is the centre of a region commonly referred to as the Upper Hunter.  Three urban locations, Muswellbrook, Denman and Sandy Hollow support a variety of rural residential and agricultural business localities.

  • Muswellbrook and Denman both have public hospitals and dedicated medical practices with associated Aged Care Facilities.  Four primary schools, a public High School and a Hunter Institute of TAFE campus support high levels of educational achievement.  Access also exists to two private secondary schools within a 20 minute drive of Muswellbrook.  

  • A heated indoor swimming pool, indoor sports centre, velodrome and numerous recreation areas allow opportunity to participate in a variety of sporting activities throughout the year.   Muswellbrook Racecourse holds regular TAB meetings, whilst Harness Racing and Greyhound Racing are held regularly at separate venues.

  • The Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music, located in Muswellbrook, provides both music education and appreciation opportunities through regular community concerts.  The Muswellbrook Shire Band encourages musicians to participate in marching and performance activities.  Muswellbrook Amateur Theatrical Society and Denman Amateur Theatrical Society produce regular music and drama performances for the community.  Community and school choirs also perform at regular occasions.

  • Just three hours from Sydney and 90 minutes from Newcastle, Muswellbrook Shire enjoys a rich diversity of rural industries including viticulture, dairying, thoroughbred horse breeding and award-winning wine making industries.  These enterprises encourage relaxation and tourism opportunity.

  • Over the last 20 years the region has developed into a major industrial area with the increase in coal mining activity creating new jobs and opportunities for associated support industries and businesses in two industrial estate locations.

  • Muswellbrook LGA is also home to Bayswater and Liddell power stations, with a combined capacity of around 4,800 MW; support transmission and supply businesses are also located in Muswellbrook Shire.
