- Despite difficult global economic conditions during 2008 and into 2009, the Hunter Region has continued to perform strongly.
- Traditional industries are still major contributors to the local economy which is now characterised by a much more diverse industry base. This diversity, combined with high levels of investment, a “can do” attitude, embracing innovation and a variety of significant competitive advantages, provide the Hunter with a very strong economic outlook.
- Investment confidence in the Hunter is strong, with many billions of dollars worth of private and government projects approved, underway or recently completed.

Regional Development Australia (RDA) is a joint Commonwealth-State initiative to support regional development. Funded by the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and State Government to be key facilitators of change and development in their regions.
RDA-Hunter will be the first point of contact for Hunter communities across all levels of government to promote regional initiatives and partnerships. RDA-Hunter coordinates the local response to opportunities for employment, regional development and community capacity-building.
