NEWCASTLE AIRPORT

The Hunter’s major airport, Newcastle Airport is located in the Port Stephens Local Government Area at Williamtown, a 25 minutes drive from the Newcastle CBD.

  • Qantas Link, Virgin Blue, Jetstar, Brindabella Airlines and AeroPelican operate services from Newcastle to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Coolangatta (Gold Coast) and Inverell. Norfolk Air operates a weekly flight to and from Norfolk Island. Newcastle Helicopters operate a fleet of helicopters for charter work as well as a flying school from their own facility at the airport.
  • In addition to leisure travel, Newcastle Airport also facilitates business activity, including support for fly-in fly-out mining operations in the Hunter Valley.
  • Newcastle Airport’s influence on the Hunter economy is undeniable. An economic impact assessment in 2008 reported that the airport supports over 3200 jobs and generates $465.5 million for the local economy, of which $151 million supports local tourism.
